Free Learning with Academic Credit

Wow!! That was my first reaction to this article! University is so expensive and I was fortunate enough to achieve both my undergraduate degrees with a full scholarship but a very small percentage go through university without struggling financially, especially if they have had to move out of home to go to university.  This OER university is revolutionising the delivery of higher education to the masses.  A collective partnership has been formed with a number of universities both in Australia and globally to provide this OER university for everyone to access.  These universities have got together and provided no less than eight courses that will award students academic credit in Africa, Asia, Oceania and North America.  It is intended that the courses provide credit towards a Bachelor of General Studies.  These courses are:

  • College Composition
  • Art Appreciation and Techniques
  • Regional relations in Asia and the Pacific
  • A Mathematical Journey
  • General and Applied Psychology
  • Critical Reasoning
  • Why Sustainable Practice
  • Introduction to Management

It may not be the degree you want but the experience and credit is valuable and the learning experience even more so.  What will be next in open education resources?  How far will this amazing project go?  Dream big and aim high I say 🙂
