A little bit about me:

I originally trained as a secondary Music teacher and taught in a high school in Wollongong for just over 4 years.  I then worked at Macquarie University as an Online Educational Designer.  I completed a Masters in Education majoring in Information Technology for Education and training in 2009 and this was a great opportunity to develop further knowledge and skills in the area of technology in education.

At Macquarie University I worked in a large team from the Learning and Teaching Centre on the institutional implementation of Moodle both at Macquarie University and for OUA.  I was also involved in presenting workshops on blended learning, mobile learning and Moodle tools, as well as the design and development of training resources, the enhancements used in Moodle and many other projects.  I love Moodle and the community that comes together to share Moodle stories, successes and failures, is one I have personally and professionally learned a lot from.

It was my great privilege to do some work last year as well for Plane.  Plane stands for Pathways for Learning, Anwhere, anytime – a Network for Educators and is the most exciting thing to come out in the field of online professional development.  What Plane is doing for educational professionals can simply be described as innovative.  The opportunities for professional growth being facilitated through this exceptional project is going to change the face of professional development for educators.  I am very passionate about eLearning and as a Learning Designer for Plane I was a part of exploring where elearning can take us in the classroom and in professional development outside of our classrooms.

Currently, I am the Leader of Learning Technologies, Library resource manager (Librarian), music teacher and coordinator of Years 8-10 independent learning subject as a Western Sydney Catholic girls college.  I am learning a lot so far from my experiences and gaining a lot of great experience and skills in new areas, as well as refining those I was previously working on already.  I have implemented Moodle 2.4 and Mahara 1.7 within the school’s ICT infrastructure and learning management systems with the help of a great ICT team.  I am currently also planning professional development and other resources and processes in the lead up to the 1-1 integration of iPads in the classroom for Year 7-9, 2014.  This will be an exciting adventure for all and I will endeavour to write about as much of it as possible.

What are my technology passions?  Heuristics, Cognitive Load Theory, Web 2.0 tools, Moodle, MOOCs, Communities of Practice and so much more!! I love to learn and explore new topic and concepts all the time.

  1. First off I want to say great blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Thanks!

  2. Your thoughts are amazing about integration of iPads in modern Education system. I am an expert in this field (iOS, Android) but still i found many of your points highly useful.
